Combining analytical and in vitro techniques for comprehensive assessments of chemical exposure and effect in green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas)

Kimberly A. Finlayson et al.

Summary: The study found that sea turtles are exposed to a large number of chemical contaminants, and the effects of these pollutants can be effectively assessed through bioassays of organic contaminants. Site-specific differences were found between different foraging populations, with turtles from heavily populated areas exposed to higher levels of pollutants. Combining traditional chemical analysis with novel effects-based methods can provide a more comprehensive assessment of chemical risk in sea turtle populations.
