Environmental and dietary exposure of perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid in the Nakdong River, Korea

Geun-Hyoung Choi et al.

Summary: This study finds potential sources of PFOA and PFOS in the Nakdong River delta, with high plant uptake factors contributing to dietary exposure risks for the South Korean population. Crop consumption may be an important pathway of PFAS exposure, exceeding reference doses when considering intake from various sources besides crops, indicating a potential risk to human health.

Effect of soil organic matter on the plant uptake of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulphonic acid (PFOS) in lettuce on granular activated carbon-applied soil

Deuk-Yeong Lee et al.

Summary: The presence of PFOA and PFOS in crops poses a significant concern for food safety, with soil organic matter content affecting their adsorption and uptake in water, soil, and crops. The use of GAC-treated soils can effectively reduce the plant uptake factor for PFOA and PFOS, with the content of SOM playing a crucial role in the remediation process of PFOA- and PFOS-contaminated farmland soil using carbonaceous adsorbent.

A comparison of the effectiveness of QuEChERS, FaPEx and a modified QuEChERS method on the determination of organochlorine pesticides in ginseng

Pennante Bruce-Vanderpuije et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of three extraction methods in determining OCPs in ginseng, finding the modified QuEChERS method to be more widely applicable. The use of QuEChERS and FaPEx extraction methods produced acceptable recovery rates in in-house prepared ginseng samples, while the modified QuEChERS method showed acceptable recoveries in a wider range of OCPs in ginseng.

Persistence, toxicological effect and ecological issues of endosulfan-A review

Palanivel Sathishkumar et al.

Summary: Endosulfan, classified as a persistent organic pollutant (POP) in the Stockholm Convention and phased out globally, has been found to have a persistent presence and biomagnification potential in the ecosystem, posing potential risks to living organisms including humans. Its distribution in the ecosystem indicates historical and recent inputs, and its toxicity can intensify when interacting with other chemicals, impacting various non-target species negatively.

Summary: The comprehensive analysis on the ginsenosides in different parts of ginseng root is scarce. Fibrous roots showed rich ingredients and high ginsenosides contents, which should be further utilized. The differences among these parts were the compositions and relative contents of ginsenosides.
