Patent Toxicity

Gianluca Biggi et al.

Summary: Researchers propose a method that combines patent analysis with computational toxicology to measure the chemical toxicity components within patents. By analyzing the toxicity of ten hazardous chemicals and comparing them with other groups of chemical patents, they suggest that this method could have significant policy implications for future research.

Possible Adverse Effects of Food Additive E171 (Titanium Dioxide) Related to Particle Specific Human Toxicity, Including the Immune System

Nicolaj S. Bischoff et al.

Summary: Titanium dioxide is commonly used as a food additive and can be found in various products, but the nano-sized particle fraction may pose potential health risks that require further investigation. Research is needed to evaluate the adverse health effects of ingested TiO2 and address knowledge gaps in its gastrointestinal absorption and distribution.

Safety assessment of titanium dioxide (E171) as a food additive

Maged Younes et al.

Summary: This opinion presents an updated safety assessment of the food additive titanium dioxide (E 171) based on new scientific evidence. Studies indicated that while particles smaller than 30 nm may have limited relevance to E 171 safety assessment, general and organ toxicity were not observed at the tested doses. Adverse effects were indicated in terms of potential immunotoxicity and inflammation with E 171 and potential neurotoxicity with TiO2 NPs.

Methods to evaluate the toxicity of engineered nanomaterials for biomedical applications: a review

Gaurang Patel et al.

Summary: The toxicity of engineered nanomaterials mainly comes from their ability to produce reactive oxygen species, their ease of absorption and distribution into various tissues, and their kinetics of elimination from the human body. Therefore, toxicity mechanisms should be tested in model biological systems, with a focus on properties such as size, shape, surface modification, composition, and aggregation.

Summary: Food wastage is a significant issue that affects public health, the environment, and the economy, requiring advanced preservation techniques to reduce waste. In addition to microbes and moisture, methods such as thermal, electrical, chemical, and radiation techniques can be used. Pulse electric field, ultrasound technology, and ozone treatment are effective in food preservation.
