Stochastic collision model approach to transport phenomena in quantum networks

Dario A. Chisholm et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new method that combines quantum microscopic description with classical stochastic description to study the interplay between environmental effects and quantum coherence in achieving maximal efficiency. The study found that the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of noise can affect transport efficiency, with preliminary validation in fully connected graphs and the FMO complex.

Optimal probes for global quantum thermometry

Wai-Keong Mok et al.

Summary: Quantum thermodynamics has emerged as a separate sub-discipline, revisiting the concepts and laws of thermodynamics at the quantum scale. The current challenges in quantum thermometry include the limitations of existing local probes and their complex energy spectrum, which have prompted the development of global thermometry and optimal temperature sensors. By formalizing the concept of global thermometry, researchers have introduced new phases for optimal probes with a wider temperature range and demonstrated their implementation in spin chains using state-of-the-art quantum technologies.

Thermalization Induced by Quantum Scattering

Samuel L. Jacob et al.

Summary: Using quantum scattering theory, we studied the impact of collisions between a fixed quantum system Y and massive particles X described by wave packets. The width of the incident wave packets compared to the level spacing in Y is crucial for induced evolution. Narrow wave packets cause Y to decohere and thermalize, while broad wave packets can prevent thermalization and act as a source of coherences for Y.
