Nonlinear Modeling of Subsidence From a Decade of InSAR Time Series

Seo-Woo Park et al.

Summary: Our study in Busan, South Korea, revealed ongoing ground subsidence in coastal reclaimed land since 2001, with a maximum subsidence rate and acceleration estimated using a hyperbolic model. Decomposition of vertical and horizontal motion indicated both weak horizontal displacement and significant vertical deformation. Despite almost two decades passing since the reclamation project completed, ground subsidence continues to occur.

Land Subsidence and Its Relations with Sinkhole Activity in Karapinar Region, Turkey: A Multi-Sensor InSAR Time Series Study

Osman Orhan et al.

Summary: This study used InSAR, GNSS, and groundwater level data to monitor land subsidence and sinkhole activity in the Karapinar basin in Turkey. The analysis revealed broad areas of subsidence and seasonal variability correlated with groundwater level changes. Results also indicated that sinkhole activity is limited to slow subsidence areas, reflecting strong cohesion of near-surface rock layers.

Present-day land subsidence rates, surface faulting hazard and risk in Mexico City with 2014-2020 Sentinel-1 IW InSAR

Francesca Cigna et al.

Summary: The study primarily focuses on the subsidence situation in the metropolitan area of Mexico City, analyzing data related to vertical velocity, horizontal velocity, surface features, and earthquake risks. The results show that the region is experiencing rapid subsidence, leading to the formation of cracks and surface faults, posing a significant geological hazard risk.
