Effect of fiber hybridization types on the mechanical properties of carbon/glass fiber reinforced polymer composite rod

Rui Guo et al.

Summary: Unidirectional carbon/glass hybrid fiber reinforced polymer composite rods were developed using pultrusion technology. Two types of fiber hybridization were proposed and their effects on mechanical properties were investigated experimentally. The results showed significant impact of fiber hybridization types on mechanical properties.

Ductile, durable, and reliable alternative to FRP bars for reinforcing seawater sea-sand recycled concrete beams: steel/FRP composite bars

Yingwu Zhou et al.

Summary: The combination of seawater, sea-sand, and recycled concrete aggregate to create seawater sea-sand recycled concrete (SSRC) offers a promising alternative to mitigate the shortage of raw construction materials. Steel fiber-reinforced polymer composite bars (SFCBs) inherit the advantages of FRP bars while also providing good ductility and stable post-yield behavior, making them ideal reinforcement for concrete structures with corrosive raw materials. Experimental and theoretical investigations have shown that SFCB reinforced SSRC beams exhibit good displacement ductility and remarkable post-yield performance.

Durability of flexurally strengthened RC beams with prestressed CFRP sheet under wet-dry cycling in a chloride-containing environment

Zhongyu Lu et al.

Summary: Using prestressed CFRP sheets can significantly improve the flexural performance of RC beams, with a 15% prestressing level resulting in around a 50% increase in cracking and ultimate loads. The inclusion of inclined U-jackets enhances the flexural performance and changes the failure mode from CFRP debonding to CFRP fracture. Exposure to chloride-containing environments leads to increased prestress losses, but a 90-day exposure in simulated subtropical marine climate does not significantly affect the flexural performance of the strengthened RC beams.

Effects of adhesive property and thickness on the bond performance between carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminate and steel

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the bond performance of CFRP-steel using a single lap shear test, focusing on the impact of adhesive toughness and bonding thickness. The study finds that for tough adhesives, increasing bonding thickness improves fracture energy but reduces interface stiffness, while the effects of bonding thickness on brittle adhesives are negligible. Key parameters for bond-slip models of tough and brittle adhesives in delamination of CFRP laminate are determined based on experimental and literature results.

Effects of thermal expansion coefficients discrepancy on the CFRP and steel bonding

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the bonding performance between CFRP plates and steel under different temperature cycles through single-lap shear tests. The results showed that temperature cycles had an insignificant impact on the bond strength, with a decrease of less than 10% after 500 cycles. In addition, the distribution of thermal shear stress under temperature cycles was simulated using the finite element method, which was consistent with existing analytical solutions.

Performance of anchorage assemblies for CFRP cables under fatigue loads

Bo Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the fatigue performance of CFRP cables using a bond extrusion anchorage system. Results showed that the stress range significantly affected the fatigue life of the cable anchorage assemblies, with damage generated at the outer layer tendons leading to rupture. The axial strain of the cable remained linear, and the fatigue performance of the anchorage assemblies allowed for 2 million cycles below the design stress range of 470 MPa.

Novel self-anchored CFRP cable system: Concept and anchorage behavior

Pengcheng Ai et al.

Summary: CFRP cables with different anchorage configurations were designed and tested, showing that the material strength of the cables is mainly determined by the thickness and radius of the CFRP loop. With optimized anchorage configurations, the anchor efficiency can reach 95% or larger. Additionally, finite element analysis was conducted, with good agreement between numerical and experimental results.
