Co-gasification of woody biomass with organic and waste matrices in a down-draft gasifier: An experimental and modeling approach

Federica Barontini et al.

Summary: This study presented an extensive experimental campaign on the co-gasification of virgin wood biomass with organic and waste matrices in a full-scale downdraft air gasifier. The results showed that the gasifier maintained good gasification performance using different mixtures, with the potential to reach cold gasification efficiencies around 80% by adjusting secondary air flow and preheating of the gasifying air. The developed pseudo-kinetic model of the gasifier was able to accurately predict the gasifier performance and enhance syngas quality.

Roles of calcium oxide on the evolution of substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons released from sewage sludge pyrolysis

Hengda Han et al.

Summary: Calcium oxide has a significant impact on reducing the light substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons released from sewage sludge pyrolysis and inhibiting the formation of heavy ones. The mechanisms involve catalyzing or reacting with different components in the sludge model compounds to affect the content and formation of aromatics. The decrease in nitrogen substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons released from sludge can be attributed to the synergy effects of CaO and other minerals or the effects of CaO on the interaction between protein and other organics.

Roles of dehydration conditioners on the formation of apatite phosphorus during the pyrolysis of various sludge

Hengda Han et al.

Summary: The study investigated the migration and transformation behaviors of phosphorus in sludge during pyrolysis, as well as the effects of calcium-based conditioners on the formation of inorganic apatite phosphorus (AP). It was found that CaCl2 showed a more excellent effect on the formation of AP than CaO, while CaO exhibited more stable performance on the retention of total phosphorus (TP).
