Production of negative-emission biomethane by twin double-bed pressure swing adsorption with tail gas sequestration

Ayub Golmakani et al.

Summary: A new biogas upgrading technology has been proposed, which can produce carbon-negative biomethane with great potential for application. The technology utilizes porous polymeric beads as adsorbents for pressure swing adsorption without the need for vacuum. Through simulation prediction, high purity CO2 separation and efficient CH4 recovery can be achieved.

Modelling competitive sorption and plasticization of glassy polymeric membranes used in biogas upgrading

Ehsan Soroodan Miandoab et al.

Summary: A mathematical model of membrane performance incorporating various factors such as fugacity-dependent permeabilities, competitive sorption, penetrant blocking, and plasticization effects was developed. The model considers real gas behavior, concentration polarization, and the influence of water vapor and carbon dioxide on plasticization. Simulation results showed significant differences in methane recovery and CO2 removal between the new model and simplified models, with the new model showing higher accuracy in predicting these values.

Experimental investigation of CO2 adsorption and desorption on multi-type amines loaded HZSM-5 zeolites

Huaigang Cheng et al.

Summary: Solid adsorbents were prepared by fixing amines to HZSM-5 zeolites via wet impregnation method, and the CO2 adsorption properties were investigated in a fixed-bed adsorption system followed by the structural, thermodynamic and kinetic studies. The study found that HZSM-5 zeolite with a Si/Al ratio of 25 and an average particle size of about 2.3 μm is an effective CO2 adsorbent support, and CO2 adsorbents supporting MEA and AEEA exhibit good CO2 adsorption capacities. The AEEA loaded HZSM-5 adsorbent shows high adsorption-desorption stability in the regeneration cycle tests, indicating energy efficiency in the CO2 desorption process and low CO2 capture cost.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of Ni:K atomic ratio on the structure and CO2 storage capacity of K-NiFe-PBAs. Porosity and CO2 adsorption heat can be modulated by varying the Ni:K ratio, showing high sensitivity to structural distortions induced by small changes under water vapor pressure. The materials exhibit promising potential for CO2 capture in the presence of water, with similar adsorption capacity to other established CO2 adsorbents.
