Probable airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in a poorly ventilated restaurant

Yuguo Li et al.

Summary: By analyzing a COVID-19 outbreak in a restaurant in Guangzhou, China, the study assessed the possibility of airborne transmission of the virus and characterized the associated environmental conditions. The findings suggest that airborne transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is possible in crowded spaces with a ventilation rate of 1 L/s per person.

Turbulence role in the fate of virus-containing droplets in violent expiratory events

M. E. Rosti et al.

Summary: The study reveals the crucial role of turbulence in the fate of exhaled droplets, showing that the evaporation time of droplets is controlled by the combined effect of turbulence and droplet inertia due to the considerable spread in initial droplet size. Comparing the high-resolution direct numerical simulations (DNS) with coarse-grained descriptions used in current investigations, errors up to 100% are observed when turbulent fluctuations are filtered or completely averaged out.
