Commissioning, performance benchmarking, and investigation of alkali emissions in a 10 kWth solid fuel chemical looping combustion pilot

Ivan Gogolev et al.

Summary: The study successfully demonstrated the conversion of high and low volatile biomass into electricity with high carbon capture efficiency using a newly designed chemical looping combustion pilot. The strong alkali absorption characteristics of ilmenite bed material were identified as the key determinant of gas-phase release of biomass alkali in the conducted experiments.

Performance of an oxy-polishing step in the 100 kWth chemical looping combustion prototype

Daofeng Mei et al.

Summary: In the process of Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC), further conversion of unconverted fuel gases is necessary to achieve complete combustion. Experimental results demonstrate that adding oxygen to the post-oxidation chamber (POC) can significantly enhance the oxidation efficiency of fuel gases, leading to higher gas conversion rates.

An experimental study of a volatiles distributor for solid fuels chemical-looping combustion process

Xiaoyun Li et al.

Summary: The novel concept of the volatiles distributor (VD) aims to achieve an even distribution of volatiles in a fluidized-bed, leading to better contact between volatiles and bed materials. Experimental studies show that at higher fluidization velocities, the presence of VD improves the even distribution of volatiles, while without VD, volatiles tend to form local plumes and exhibit more pronounced maldistribution at higher fluidization velocities.
