Understanding the Structural Evolution of a Nickel Chalcogenide Electrocatalyst Surface for Water Oxidation

Umanga De Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evolution of the active surface composition for nickel-selenide and -telluride-based electrocatalysts by intentionally creating nickel-oxide-coated surfaces. The results confirmed the stability of the catalytically active chalcogenide surfaces in alkaline medium, providing evidence that the surface evolves into a mixed anionic (hydroxo)chalcogenide surface. The study also highlighted the significant differences in electrochemical properties between oxide-coated, selenide, and telluride surfaces, emphasizing the importance of understanding the composition changes in chalcogenide surfaces using electrochemical properties.

Stable Acidic Water Oxidation with a Cobalt-Iron-Lead Oxide Catalyst Operating via a Cobalt-Selective Self-Healing Mechanism

Darcy Simondson et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the stable operation of [Co-Fe-Pb]O-x in acidic solutions without the addition of Pb2+ and Fe3+, showcasing promising performance in water electrooxidation. Low concentrations of Co2+ are shown to stabilize the catalytically active Co(Fe) sites, allowing for steady water electrooxidation at specific conditions.

Comparative Studies of Carbon Nanomaterial and γ-Alumina as Supports for the Ni-Mo Catalyst in Hydrotreating of Gas Oils

Emma Aryee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of different support materials on the efficiency of hydrotreating catalyst with Ni-Mo. It was found that NiMo/CNH catalyst exhibited outstanding physicochemical properties, leading to superior hydrodesulfurization activity compared to NiMo/OCPf, NiMo/OCP, and NiMo/CNT catalysts. X-ray absorption spectroscopy analysis revealed that a distorted octahedral Mo coordination environment in carbon-supported catalysts did not always correlate with higher hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation activities.

Nitrogen Vacancy Induced Coordinative Reconstruction of Single-Atom Ni Catalyst for Efficient Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

Chen Jia et al.

Summary: In this study, a new plasma-assisted and nitrogen vacancy induced coordinative reconstruction strategy was utilized to optimize the structure of transition metal nitrogen carbon based single-atom catalysts, leading to improved efficiency and selectivity in CO2 electroreduction to CO. The reconstruction process enhanced the kinetics of CO2-to-CO conversion, resulting in significantly increased CO selectivity and productivity with a high CO Faradaic efficiency and large CO current density. X-ray adsorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations show that the defective local nitrogen environment created by the reconstruction strategy reduces the constraint on central nickel atoms, facilitating the adsorption and activation of CO2 molecules and lowering the energy barrier for CO2 reduction.

Anchoring Single Copper Atoms to Microporous Carbon Spheres as High-Performance Electrocatalyst for Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Lingbo Zong et al.

Summary: This study reports a method of anchoring transition metal single atoms on carbon support by creating defects and vacancies, resulting in electrocatalysts with superior oxygen reduction reaction catalytic activity. Among them, Cu-SAs@N-CNS exhibits excellent bifunctional activity for oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions, and is successfully used as an efficient air cathode material for zinc-air batteries; the study suggests that N-terminated vacancies on graphitic carbons are the preferred sites for anchoring Cu single atoms.

Ru-Based Catalysts for Ammonia Decomposition: A Mini-Review

Chongqi Chen et al.

Summary: Ammonia with a hydrogen content of 17.6 wt % is considered a promising hydrogen carrier with established infrastructures for production, storage, and transportation. Various metal-based catalysts, especially Ru-based ones, have been developed for NH3 decomposition, aiming to improve performance by reducing Ru loading and reaction temperature. Research focuses on support materials such as carbon (CNTs, CNFs, graphene) and metal oxides (Al2O3, MgO, SiO2) to understand the relationship between catalytic performance and structure.
