Numerical simulation of coal dust self-ignition and combustion under inclination conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the self-ignition and combustion characteristics of coal dust under inclination conditions using a two-step parallel oxidation reaction mechanism, providing a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of coal dust fires. Experimental results show that the self-ignition and combustion process of coal dust can be divided into five stages and the inclination angle affects the minimum ignition temperature, with coal dust deposited under the ceiling being more easily ignited.

Adiabatic spontaneous coal combustion period derived from the thermal effect of spontaneous combustion

Li Yan et al.

Summary: A method for measuring the thermal effect of spontaneous combustion and the adiabatic spontaneous combustion period of coal was proposed. Through experiments, the adiabatic spontaneous combustion period for coal from the Zhao Xian coal mine was determined to be 95.9 hours, with a small error of less than 0.22%. This research contributes to evaluating the potential risks associated with spontaneous coal combustion.

Dynamic pyrolysis behaviors, products, and mechanisms of waste rubber and polyurethane bicycle tires

Xiaojie Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pyrolysis behavior, gaseous products, and reaction mechanisms of waste bicycle tires (RT) and polyurethane tires (PUT) using thermogravimetry (TG), TG-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR), and pyrolysis-gas chromato-graphy/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). The results showed that the decomposition of PUT was easier compared to RT, as confirmed by kinetic, thermodynamic, and comprehensive pyrolysis index data. The pyrolysis mechanism models for RT were described by two-dimensional diffusion and two second-order models, while PUT was best described by three consecutive reaction-order models.

Heat effects and kinetics of coal spontaneous combustion at various oxygen contents

Zhang Yutao et al.

Summary: Decreasing oxygen concentration reduces heat release of coal, delays occurrence of characteristic temperature point, and prolongs reaction time. Under oxygen-depleted conditions, the apparent activation energy and pre-exponential factor of coal decrease, leading to a decline in CSC reaction intensity.

Thermal, kinetic and thermodynamic study for co-pyrolysis of pine needles and styrofoam using thermogravimetric analysis

Anil Kumar Varma et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal decomposition behavior of pine needles, styrofoam, and their mixture, and determined the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the co-pyrolysis of PN and SF using TGA data. The results suggest that the PN and SF mixture has potential to be used as pyrolysis feedstocks.

Influence of co-processing of coal and oil shale on combustion characteristics, kinetics and ash fusion behaviour

Peng Jiang et al.

Summary: The combustion characteristics and ash fusion behaviours of Qinghai coal and Fushun oil shale, as well as their blends, were studied. It was found that the blends exhibited good combustion performance in terms of ignition and burnout indices, with combustion temperature having the most significant impact on thermogravimetric mass loss. The addition of oil shale was shown to mitigate slagging and fouling tendencies in Qinghai coal combustion.

Numerical study on the oxidation reaction characteristics of coal under temperature-programmed conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The research shows that the reaction between coal and oxygen is influenced by temperature and oxygen concentration, increasing the volume fraction of oxygen and heating rate can promote the reaction between coal and oxygen, and reduce the heating effects under external heating conditions. Therefore, controlling temperature storage conditions can prevent the oxidation reaction of coal, while changing oxygen supply conditions can control the development of coal spontaneous combustion.

Effects of thermal boundary conditions on spontaneous combustion of coal under temperature-programmed conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: A new method to calculate key parameters of coal self-heating and a global numerical model to explore the coal oxidation process were proposed. The coal oxidation process can be divided into three stages, which is essential for preventing coal spontaneous combustion.
