Effects of micro-combustor geometry and size on the heat transfer and combustion characteristics of premixed hydrogen/air flames

Alireza Rahbari et al.

Summary: The major challenge in the development of micro-combustors is flame instabilities, which lead to non-uniform wall temperature distribution and lower combustion efficiency. This research investigates the combustion characteristics and geometrical configurations on flame stability and combustion efficiency, with a detailed chemical reaction mechanism developed and parametric study conducted. Increasing thermal conductivity coefficient, equivalence ratio, and using a micro-combustor with bluff body are identified as effective ways to improve combustion performance.

Non-premixed combustion characteristics and thermal performance of a catalytic combustor for micro-thermophotovoltaic systems

Linhong Li et al.

Summary: The study verified that a symmetrical configuration of micro-combustor can improve combustion efficiency and radiation efficiency, allowing it to operate at higher average velocities. Furthermore, as the average velocity increases, combustion efficiency decreases monotonically while radiation efficiency and radiant energy output increase first and then decrease.

Effect of convex platform structure on hydrogen and oxygen combustion characteristics in micro combustor

Jianfeng Pan et al.

Summary: The setting of a convex platform can significantly increase the maximum velocity while reducing the outlet velocity; increasing the height of the convex platform will increase turbulent kinetic energy, but has little effect on combustion intensity; increasing the inlet velocity can raise the axial temperature but decrease fuel conversion rate.

Summary: The catalytic reaction of C2H6 with CO2 can produce ethylene or syngas using shale gas and greenhouse gases as raw materials. The study found that Pd-doped bimetallic catalysts have high selectivity and conversion rates for ethylene and syngas production, playing different roles in the conversion and selectivity of reactants.

Yuelei Zhang et al.

Summary: The research applies a computational method to examine the impacts of coaxial hybrid air and fuel jets on fuel mixing at supersonic cross-flow, revealing significant improvement in fuel penetration and mixing inside the combustion chamber. The study also confirms that the coaxial injector enhances the spiral feature of the fuel jet, promoting fuel mixing downstream and increasing circulation strength in far away from an injector.

Stratified combustion characteristics analysis and assisted-ignition strategy optimization in a natural gas blended diesel Wankel engine

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: The study highlighted the importance of improving combustion performance in a diesel Wankel engine by investigating dual-fuel mixture formation and the effects of assisted-ignition timing and position on engine combustion characteristics. Results showed that using dual assisted-ignition spark plugs could enhance fuel burning rate and improve engine combustion performance, with a more concentrated mixture near spark plugs leading to increased pressure in-cylinder and combustion rate. Symmetrical arranged dual assisted-ignition spark plugs and ignition timing of 35°CA BTDC were identified as preferred practical application schemes, significantly increasing peak pressure in-cylinder compared to single spark plug ignition and different ignition timing schemes.
