Dynamics of population, urban agglomeration, and economic growths inSub-SaharanAfrica: Evidence from panel data

Fredrick O. Asogwa et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the dynamics of population, urban agglomeration (UAG), and economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. The findings confirm some theoretical expectations, showing that growth in rural and urban population, as well as total trade, are negatively related to UAG. On the other hand, gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investment (FDI) have a positive association with UAG, validating the Williamson-Kuznets hypothesis. The study recommends inward-looking policies that promote local processing of agricultural raw materials to boost economic growth and UAG sustainability in the region.

Another outlook to sector-level energy consumption in Pakistan from dominant energy sources and correlation with economic growth

Abdul Rehman et al.

Summary: The study investigates the energy consumption of oil and natural gas sectors in Pakistan and explores the linkage with economic growth from 1980 to 2016. It shows a long-run association between various sectors and economic growth, with implications for the government to enhance oil and gas production to meet sectoral requirements.

A threshold approach to sustainable development: Nonlinear relationship between renewable energy consumption, natural resource rent, and ecological footprint

Asad Ullah et al.

Summary: This study examines the nonlinear relationship between renewable energy consumption, natural resource rent, and ecological footprint in the top 15 renewable energy-consuming economies worldwide. The results indicate a negative association between renewable energy consumption and ecological footprint, as well as a positive relationship between natural resource rent and ecological footprint. It is recommended that nations shift their energy consumption policies towards renewable energy sources through investment in renewable energy technology and research for more sustainable development.

Estimating the macroeconomic determinants of total, renewable, and non-renewable energy demands in Bangladesh: the role of technological innovations

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: Bangladesh is poised to become one of the leading emerging market economies, expecting substantial economic growth and increased energy consumption levels over the next decade. Economic growth and household consumption expenditure positively influence energy demand, while income inequality has opposite effects. Technological innovations reduce non-renewable energy demand and increase renewable energy demand, with oil price shocks having minimal impact on energy demand.

The Impact of Globalization, Energy Use, and Trade on Ecological Footprint in Pakistan: Does Environmental Sustainability Exist?

Abdul Rehman et al.

Summary: Globalization has long-term productive interactions with ecological footprints, while fuel importation has an adverse linkage. Energy consumption, trade, and GDP growth have positive effects on ecological footprints. However, in the short term, energy consumption, trade, and GDP growth also have constructive impacts.

The dynamic links between nuclear energy and sustainable economic growth. Do institutions matter?

Theodoros Christoforidis et al.

Summary: The study finds that nuclear energy consumption and institutional quality have significant positive effects on economic growth in the long run, but higher institutional quality has a negative long-term impact on nuclear power usage. A unidirectional causal effect from economic growth to nuclear energy consumption is observed in the short run.

Energy Crisis in Pakistan and Economic Progress: Decoupling the Impact of Coal Energy Consumption in Power and Brick Kilns

Abdul Rehman et al.

Summary: The study reveals that coal energy consumption has varying impacts on economic progress in Pakistan, with consumption in the power sector and brick kilns having negative effects, while total coal energy consumption shows a positive association. Efforts to improve the energy sector by focusing on alternative energy sources are necessary to address Pakistan's deep energy crisis and foster economic progress.

The nexus between CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and economic growth in the U.S.

Mahmoud Salari et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and GDP in the U.S. at the state level. Different types of energy consumption have varying impacts on CO2 emissions, and there is an inverted-U shape relationship between CO2 emissions and GDP. The findings can inform policy makers in reducing CO2 emissions across states.
