Impedance Compensation Method of Protective Relay for SFCL's Application in a Power Distribution System

Min-Ki Park et al.

Summary: To reduce the fault current in the electric power industry, methods such as separating the bus line of the main substation or installing a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) can be used. However, the application of SFCL may affect the operation of the over-current relay (OCR), which is addressed in this paper by proposing an impedance compensation method.

Experimental Tests of DC SFCL Under Low Impedance and High Impedance Fault Conditions

Jiawen Xi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the behavior of an SFCL coil in DC systems under low impedance and high impedance fault conditions. It is found that the SFCL coil effectively limits the fault current level under low impedance fault conditions, but can only limit the fault current when it is much higher than the critical current of the coil under high impedance fault conditions.
