A multiple-coalition-based energy trading scheme of hierarchical integrated energy systems

Xi Luo et al.

Summary: The study shows that parameter changes in one coalition do not affect operations of other coalitions in hierarchical integrated energy systems. Original customers tend to consume more electricity and heat with the same energy price would remain isolated to maintain their vested interests. Users aim to attract more DESs to lower electricity and heat prices, but DESs with high generation coefficients are unwelcome. Technological improvements of one DES will increase its own profits while decreasing profits of other DESs in the same coalition.

Optimization of a solar-based integrated energy system considering interaction between generation, network, and demand side

Xi Luo et al.

Summary: This study found that controlled demand responses can significantly improve the utilization of solar energy and reduce system costs in a solar-based integrated energy system. Users furthest away from the energy source play a crucial role in reducing system costs through demand response. In the system, voltage amplitude in the electricity network decreases the most during peak hours, while mass flow rates in the heating network increase with heating demand. Increasing the number of Photovoltaic/thermal panels decreases the cost of the entire solar-based IES.

Strategy for achieving long-term energy efficiency of European single-family buildings through passive climate adaptation

Luka Pajek et al.

Summary: This study simulated the implications of passive design measures on heating and cooling energy use of single-family residential buildings in European climates. It found that a lower window to floor ratio is the most universally applicable design measure to counterbalance the projected effect of a warming climate, but it is difficult to neutralise the projected climate change effects even with the best performing combination of passive design measures. Nonetheless, reasonably low energy use can still be assured solely by passive building design in certain climate locations.

Bi-level multi-objective optimization of design and subsidies for standalone hybrid renewable energy systems: A novel approach based on artificial neural network

Xi Luo et al.

Summary: This study proposes a bi-level multi-objective optimization model to achieve the optimal balance for standalone HRESs in remote areas by incorporating subsidy policy making and energy system design. A novel artificial neural network-based hybrid algorithm is developed to increase calculation efficiency and provide accurate results, showing that increasing subsidies can lead to greater use of solar energy and reduce carbon emissions.
