Lignin Cellulose Nanofibrils as an Electrochemically Functional Component for High-Performance and Flexible Supercapacitor Electrodes

Nicolas R. Tanguy et al.

Summary: The development of supercapacitor electrode materials with enhanced energy density, mechanical strength, and flexibility has been driven by the increasing demand for wearable electronics. By utilizing lignin-containing cellulose nanofibrils and reduced graphene oxide, high-performance electrodes with high specific capacitance and improved rate performance have been developed. The integration of these electrodes in flexible supercapacitor devices shows promise for advanced flexible electrodes with reduced cost and environmental impact.

Self-discharge study of lignin/graphite hybrid material electrodes

Lianlian Liu et al.

Summary: The study proposes lignin as electricity storage material due to the redox activity of quinone and hydroquinone groups. The research investigates the self-discharge mechanism of lignosulfonate/graphite electrodes, revealing diffusion controlled, activation controlled, and charge equilibration mechanisms during self-discharge at different charging voltages. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of the structure and self-discharge mechanisms of biopolymer/graphite hybrid electrodes.

Value-added utilization of lignin-derived aromatic oligomers as renewable charge-storage materials

Weisheng Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, lignin-derived aromatic oligomers (LDAOs) were used as raw material to prepare a synthetic polymer (SP-AOF) by reacting with formaldehyde, followed by incorporation with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to form rGO/SP-AOF. The hybrid electrode showed high specific capacitance due to the presence of quinone groups in SP-AOF, which contributed to overall capacitance with pseudocapacitance. This research offers a promising strategy for the utilization of aromatic oligomers in manufacturing high-performance lignin-derived energy storage materials.

Programmable synthesis of radially gradient-structured mesoporous carbon nanospheres with tunable core-shell architectures

Liang Peng et al.

Summary: A programmable shear-induced dynamic assembly approach was developed to synthesize mesoporous carbon nanospheres with tunable core-shell structures and gradient pore systems. The micelle structures in the system can be adjusted by changing shear force and a programmatically proceeded synthesis process results in intelligent assembly of multimodal mesostructures. The resultant carbon nanospheres exhibit high capacity and ultra-long cyclic life for sodium-ion storage, showing potential for innovative applications.
