Reference method for off-line analysis of nitrogen oxides in cell culture media by an ozone-based chemiluminescence detector

Ayman Chmayssem et al.

Summary: Nitric oxide (NO) and its by-products are important biological signals in human physiology and pathology, particularly in the vascular and immune systems. In situ determination of NO-related molecule (NOx) levels using embedded sensors is important for cellular biocompatibility testing, but a dedicated NOx analytical reference method is lacking. A novel PAPA-NONOate-based reference method has been demonstrated for NOx sensor calibration, showing potential for detection of oxidative stress-related NO secretion in vascular endothelial cells in 3D tissue from 3D printing.

A Generalized Potentiostat Adaptor for Multiplexed Electroanalysis

Rebecca B. Clark et al.

Summary: Three different potentiostat architectures for electrochemical measurements are discussed, with a focus on the advantages of using a multiplexer interface. A strategy for developing flexible printed circuit (FPC) electrode arrays for single-channel potentiostats is presented, along with experimental results. The FPC array is interfaced with commercial potentiostats using a simple connector and multiplexers, demonstrating reliability, stability, and reproducibility.

Development of a multiparametric (bio)sensing platform for continuous monitoring of stress metabolites

Ayman Chmayssem et al.

Summary: This paper presents the design and development of a multiparametric (bio) sensing platform for real-time monitoring of cell metabolites, highlighting its easy manufacturing process, easy scalability, modularity, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. The developed platform allows for multiparametric analysis of key factors indicating potential cell damage during cell culture. The proposal of a sensors platform based on thick-film coupled to microfluidic technology for accurate analysis of secreting stress metabolites during cell/tissues culture is also discussed.

Basis of Image Analysis for Evaluating Cell Biomaterial Interaction Using Brightfield Microscopy

Arban Uka et al.

Summary: Medical imaging is a rapidly growing field focusing on noninvasive diagnosis, monitoring, and analysis of biological systems. The prevalence of implanted biomedical devices is expected to increase significantly, but automated evaluation of biomaterial toxicity is not yet fully realized. Image analysis plays a crucial role in biomaterial research, but is not a core competency for many scientists in the field.
