Lead stress affects the reproduction of Spodoptera litura but not by regulating the vitellogenin gene promoter

Jialiang Zhou et al.

Summary: Lead stress affects hormone-mediated responses in insects, including reproduction. This study investigated the effects of lead stress on the reproduction of the common cutworm Spodoptera litura after 7 generations. The results showed that lead stress reduced the longevity of adult males and delayed egg-laying peak time, decreased egg production, and hatchability. Lead stress significantly inhibited vitellin content in eggs, but did not affect vitellogenin expression by regulating its promoter.

Lead toxicity in Lucilia cuprina and electrochemical analysis: a simple and low-cost alternative for forensic investigation

Barbara G. de O. Bessa et al.

Summary: Entomotoxicology is used to detect and analyze substances in necrophagous insects, such as the abundant metal lead in gunshot residue. This study investigated the toxicity effects of lead on immature L. cuprina, as well as the bioaccumulation of lead in larvae samples. The presence of lead in immature L. cuprina can be used to estimate the post-mortem interval, providing important information in forensic entomology.

Physiological role of CYP17A1-like in cadmium detoxification and its transcriptional regulation in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas

Jing Tian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the critical role of CYP17A1-like in Cd detoxification in Pacific oysters, providing a new perspective towards unraveling detoxification mechanisms of bivalves under heavy metal stress. The RNA interference experiments confirmed the importance of CYP17A1-like in Cd detoxification, leading to significant tissue damage in oysters and increased activities of antioxidant enzymes. Dual luciferase reporter assay revealed potential transcriptional regulation of CYP17A1-like by MTF-1 in oysters.

Identification of three metallothioneins in the black soldier fly and their functions in Cd accumulation and detoxification

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: The black soldier fly (BSF) has a strong tolerance to cadmium stress, with metallothioneins playing a crucial role in detoxification and tolerance. RNA interference experiments confirmed the importance of metallothioneins in BSF's ability to withstand cadmium toxicity. Further studies on the physiological functions of metallothioneins in BSF and other insects are needed.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
