Summary: The study reveals a significant level of household food insecurity in the rural-hilly areas of Kumaun, Uttarakhand, with different categories of food insecurity observed. Factors such as family poverty level, number of children or adolescents, household head's education level, number of employed family members, and social class were found to be significantly associated with food insecurity. It is recommended that food security policies in India should focus on education, income, employment, and household composition, while nutrition-sensitive interventions in agriculture and promotion of animal food sources can help alleviate food insecurity in the region.
