Spectral subdomains and prior estimation of leaf structure improves PROSPECT inversion on reflectance or transmittance alone

Lynsay Spafford et al.

Summary: Leaf biochemical and structural traits are closely related to various physiological processes in vegetation. Field-based spectroscopy using optical properties provides a rapid and nondestructive method for estimating leaf biochemical constituents. Inversion procedures for retrieving leaf constituents from leaf optical properties, such as chlorophyll and carotenoids, can be improved by selecting optimal spectral subdomains and utilizing prior information on the leaf structure parameter.
