Understanding trade-offs and synergies of ecosystem services to support the decision-making in the Beijing?Tianjin?Hebei region

Zhe Feng et al.

Summary: The study utilized Bayesian belief networks to simulate ecosystem service supply in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, identifying key factors influencing ecosystem services and revealing trade-offs and synergies among different services. The results showed that land use type had the most significant impact on ecosystem service trade-offs. The research provides insights for ecosystem service management decision-making and offers a research method for understanding ecosystem service relationships.

Reactive nitrogen loss from livestock-based food and biofuel production systems considering climate change and dietary transition

Wencong Yue et al.

Summary: The study proposed a hybrid approach to identify nitrogen loss from livestock-based food and biofuel production systems and applied it to the Greater Bay Area. Results showed that fertilizer demand in fodder crop production is projected to be the highest in the next decade, and reducing nitrogen fertilizer demand can be achieved through compost production and reducing food loss.

Management optimization of nonpoint source pollution considering the risk of exceeding criteria under uncertainty

Qiangqiang Rong et al.

Summary: A developed IMPMMP model effectively deals with system uncertainties and complexities in NPS pollution management, considering the risk of exceeding criteria in NPS pollution management systems. Results showed that decision maker preferences regarding land use adjustment are crucial, with optimized NPS pollution loads primarily from different land uses and human population.

Trade-Offs and Synergies of Ecosystem Services in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration

Qiongrui Zhang et al.

Summary: Ecosystem services (ESs) are important for urban planning, and understanding the trade-offs among ESs is crucial for regional governance. This study analyzed the spatial and temporal changes of four basic ESs in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration in China. The results showed correlations and trade-offs among the ESs, with synergies between water yield and food production, and between habitat quality and carbon storage. Scale influences the degree of the relationship between ESs.
