Quantifying the Overall Efficiency of Circularly Polarized Emitters

Lorenzo Arrico et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new concept of CPL brightness (B-CPL), which takes into consideration the absorption extinction coefficient and quantum yield in addition to the g(lum) factor, to comprehensively evaluate the efficiency of CPL emitters. By calculating B-CPL values for over 180 compounds and analyzing the data distribution for main classes of CPL molecular emitters, this tool can aid in contextualizing new CPL active compounds and guiding the selection of molecular systems for specific CPL applications.

Highly luminescent liquid crystals by connecting 1,3,4-oxadiazole with thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole units

Arthur B. S. Santos et al.

Summary: A new and versatile rigid core for luminescent liquid crystal was created through direct bonding between a thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole and two 1,3,4-oxadiazole units, showing interesting and variable mesomorphic and photophysical properties. Different molecules with varying numbers of alkoxy chains synthesized from this core exhibited different liquid crystal behaviors and photophysical properties, with promising potential for optoelectronic applications. This work contributes to the development of thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole in liquid crystals, showcasing its efficiency and versatility.

Axially Chiral Bis-Cycloplatinated Binaphthalenes and Octahydro-Binaphthalenes for Efficient Circularly Polarized Phosphorescence in Solution-Processed Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: A new series of axially chiral binuclear Pt(II) complexes with bridging ligands of binaphthalenes and octahydro-binaphthalenes and auxiliary ligands of beta-diketones were designed and prepared. These complexes emit orange-red phosphorescence with high quantum yields and can be used as emitters in solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes. The relationship between their chemical structures and luminescence quantum efficiency and asymmetry factor was discussed, providing insights for designing circularly polarized luminescent materials and devices.

Heterohelicenes through 1,3-Dipolar Cycloaddition of Sydnones with Arynes: Synthesis, Origins of Selectivity, and Application to pH-Triggered Chiroptical Switch with CPL Sign Reversal

Expedite Yen-Pon et al.

Summary: A regioselective access to heterohelicenes through 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of sydnones with arynes has been described. The origins of the unconventional regioselectivity were systematically investigated using density functional theory calculations, unveiling the key features that control this reactivity and leading to the discovery of a derivative with reversible CPL sign inversion properties.

Pathways to increase the dissymmetry in the interaction of chiral light and chiral molecules

Jake L. Greenfield et al.

Summary: The dissymmetric interaction between circularly polarised light and chiral molecules is important across various fields, but the selectivity in absorption or emission of left-handed versus right-handed CP light is often low. Strategies to enhance this interaction include molecular design, modification of light, and creating macroscopic chiral structures, offering hope for advancements in research involving interactions of chiral molecules and light.
