Carbazole-substituted dialkoxybenzodithiophene dyes for efficient light harvesting and the effect of alkoxy tail length

Klaudia Wagner et al.

Summary: A set of new donor-pi-acceptor organic PM dyes have been synthesized and characterized for application in dye-sensitized solar cells. The change in 'linker' structure affects electron redistribution and electron hole localization, while modifying the dyes with different alkoxy chain lengths influences access of oxidized cobalt ions to the surface. Despite lower performance compared to the MK2 benchmark, these PM dyes are easier and cheaper to synthesize, showing excellent potential for future DSSC applications.

Influence of different concentrations of 4-tert-butyl-pyridine in a gel polymer electrolyte towards improved performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC)

Norshahirah Mohamad Saidi et al.

Summary: The study found that adding 4-tert-butyl-pyridine (TBP) can increase the open-circuit voltage of dye-sensitized solar cells, thereby enhancing photovoltaic conversion efficiency. Under specific conditions, the gel polymer electrolyte sample containing 3 wt% TBP exhibited the best photovoltaic performance.

A molecular photosensitizer achieves a Voc of 1.24V enabling highly efficient and stable dye-sensitized solar cells with copper(II/I)-based electrolyte

Dan Zhang et al.

Summary: Developing photosensitizers with high open-circuit voltage (V-oc) is important to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of co-sensitized solar cells. By employing a carefully tailored organic sensitizer MS5 with copper electrolyte, the authors achieved a V-oc of 1.24V and recorded a PCE of 34.5% under ambient light.

Conjugating pillararene dye in dye-sensitized solar cells

Chaoqiang Liao et al.

Summary: The use of pillar[5]arene dyes can enhance the open-circuit voltage of DSSCs, while also inhibiting dye aggregation and charge recombination, leading to improved performance. Additionally, host-guest interactions with the electrolyte can further adjust the voltage and photocurrent of the DSSCs.
