Natural convection and direct type (NCDT) solar dryers: a review

Summary: Solar drying is considered one of the most beneficial and sustainable technologies for society. This paper reviews various designs of natural convective and direct type solar dryers, comparing their performance based on parameters such as design simplicity, capital cost, compactness, portability, and thermal performance. Dryers utilizing convection and radiation as heat transfer mechanisms are compared, with a focus on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of those utilizing the conduction mechanism. Work done on an innovative solar conduction dryer is highlighted, showing potential for the further advancement of solar drying technology.
