A dual-response fluorescent probe for detection and bioimaging of hydrazine and cyanide with different fluorescence signals

Shuai Mu et al.

Summary: A novel dual-response fluorescent probe (RDCN) was designed and synthesized for the detection of hydrazine and cyanide, exhibiting discriminative sensing behaviors with high selectivity and sensitivity. The probe was successfully applied for detection in water samples and visualization in live cells, showing potential applications for discriminative detection in biological environment.

Visual and quantitative detection of CN- ion in aqueous media by an HBT-Br and thiazolium conjugated fluorometric and colorimetric probe: Real samples and useful applications

Serkan Erdemir et al.

Summary: Cyanide, a highly toxic chemical mainly released from industrial production, requires selective, sensitive, and rapid monitoring techniques for detection. The efficient cyanide probe reported in this study, based on thiazolium conjugated HBT-Br derivative, shows significant color change towards cyanide under different lighting conditions. Through ESIPT and ICT processes, the probe can effectively detect cyanide at levels lower than physiologically lethal concentrations.

Highly selective, colorimetric probes for cyanide ion based on β-formylBODIPY dyes by an unprecedented nucleophilic addition reaction

Qinghua Wu et al.

Summary: Two beta-formylBODIPYs show strong daylight excitable fluorescence and highly selective responses to cyanide anion. Surprisingly, cyanide anion undergoes nucleophilic addition to the alpha-position of the BODIPY core instead of the expected formyl moiety, causing interruption of pi-conjugation and significant blue-shift of absorption maxima.

Two cyanoethylene-based fluorescence probes for highly efficient cyanide detection and practical applications in drinking water and living cells

Ting Peng et al.

Summary: Two fluorescence probes based on cyanoethylene group were reported for selective detection of cyanide anion (CN-), showing rapid response, low detection limits, and potential applications in environmental monitoring and cell imaging. The sensing mechanism was confirmed by various analytical techniques, and density functional theory calculations were used for theoretical analysis. The probes demonstrated good biocompatibility and membrane penetrability, making them promising for real-life applications.

New naphthoquinone-imidazole hybrids: Synthesis, anion recognition properties, DFT studies and acid dissociation constants

Yahya Nural et al.

Summary: The molecular structures of two new naphthoquinone-imidazole based dyes containing indole and pyrene moiety were confirmed, and their anion selectivity and sensitivity were studied. The interaction mechanisms between the dyes were verified by various spectroscopic methods, and the acid dissociation constants were determined for each dye relating to protonated carbonyl group and nitrogen atoms.

Turn-on fluorescent naphthalimide-benzothiazole probe for cyanide detection and its two-mode aggregation-induced emission behavior

T. Sheshashena Reddy et al.

Summary: The Naphthalimide-benzothiazole conjugate linked by cinnamonitrile exhibited turn-on fluorescence in the presence of CN- with high selectivity in tetrahydrofuran, and also showed two-mode aggregation-induced emission in THF-H2O mixtures. The sensing mechanism and AIE behavior were analyzed in detail, providing important data for further studies.

Cyanide Anions as Nucleophilic Catalysts in Organic Synthesis

David Kieslich et al.

Summary: The nucleophilic addition of a cyanide anion to a carbonyl group serves as the basis for several cyanide-catalyzed organic reactions, with examples including the benzoin condensation and the Michael-Stetter reaction. Apart from the fundamental reactions, variants like the silyl-benzoin coupling and cyanide-catalyzed heterocyclic syntheses are also covered.

Cyanobiphenyl-spiropyrane and -hemicyanine conjugates for cyanide detection in organic/aqueous media through reverse ICT direction: Their practical applications

Serkan Erdemir et al.

Summary: The development of fluorescence turn-on and turn-off sensors based on hybrid cyanobiphenyl-spiropyrane and -hemicyanine for CN ion detection shows high selectivity and sensitivity. The probes can rapidly and accurately detect cyanide levels in water samples, and can be conveniently used for on-site measurement without complicated instruments.
