Conversion of methyl carlactonoate to heliolactone in sunflower

Takatoshi Wakabayashi et al.

Summary: Heliolactone is a non-canonical strigolactone isolated from sunflower root exudates. This study provides evidence that (11R)-MeCLA is the biosynthetic precursor of heliolactone and suggests the involvement of cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenation in the conversion of heliolactone to an unidentified metabolite.

Desmethyl butenolides are optimal ligands for karrikin receptor proteins

Jiaren Yao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the molecular mechanisms of plant growth regulators strigolactones and karrikins. By genetic and biochemical approaches, it is found that KAI2 receptor is most sensitive to desmethyl butenolides lacking a methyl group, which is conserved in different plant species.

Identification and characterization of sorgomol synthase in sorghum strigolactone biosynthesis

Takatoshi Wakabayashi et al.

Summary: Strigolactones act as endogenous phytohormones regulating shoot branching and mediating symbiotic communications in the rhizosphere. Characterization of sorgomol synthase in sorghum revealed that SbCYP728B35 catalyzes the conversion of 5DS to sorgomol, with the C-8bS configuration in the C-ring being essential for this reaction.

Summary: Strigolactones (SLs) and smoke-derived Karrikins (KARs) are structurally similar butenolide compounds that control distinct aspects of plant development through their specific receptors. Recent research shows that synthetic molecules can induce transcriptional responses independently of the canonical receptor complex.
