Novel 3-O-α-D-Galactosyl-α-L-Arabinofuranosidase for the Assimilation of Gum Arabic Arabinogalactan Protein in Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum

Yuki Sasaki et al.

Summary: A novel GAfase enzyme was identified and characterized in this study, which is responsible for releasing specific sugar molecules from gum arabic AGP and cooperating with other enzymes in the degradation process. This discovery provides new insights into the mechanism of gum arabic AGP degradation in B. longum.

Impact of synbiotics on gut microbiota during early life: a randomized, double-blind study

Nopaorn Phavichitr et al.

Summary: This study showed that a specific synbiotic combination at doses closer to the bacterial cells present in human milk significantly increased bifidobacteria proportions and decreased potential pathogens in healthy infants. The synbiotic supplementation also improved gut physiological conditions, creating an environment closer to breastfed infants.

Bifidobacterium response to lactulose ingestion in the gut relies on a solute-binding protein-dependent ABC transporter

Keisuke Yoshida et al.

Summary: This study investigated the response of Bifidobacterium to lactulose ingestion in healthy Japanese subjects, focusing on a lactulose transporter. The results showed a correlation between the abundance of specific genes and the increase in Bifidobacterium after lactulose ingestion, suggesting different thresholds for responders and non-responders to lactulose. These findings could help predict who will respond positively to prebiotics and guide clinical interventions testing the efficacy of prebiotics.
