Giant Coacervate Vesicles As an Integrated Approach to Cytomimetic Modeling

Yanwen Zhang et al.

Summary: The newly developed giant coacervate vesicles (GCVs) can serve as cytomimetic models with high sequestration efficiency and permeability to molecules below a molecular weight cutoff of approximately 4 kDa, suitable for enzyme and ribozyme catalysis reactions.

Encapsulation of ribozymes inside model protocells leads to faster evolutionary adaptation

Yei-Chen Lai et al.

Summary: The encapsulation of RNA ribozymes inside protocells generally increases their activity, with highly active ribozymes benefiting disproportionately more from encapsulation. This asymmetry in fitness gain broadens the distribution of fitness in the system. Encapsulation not only provides compartmentalization function, but also promotes activity and evolutionary adaptation during the origin of life.
