Reda M. Abdelhameed et al.

Summary: Essential oils are known for their potency as anti-pathogens and anti-oxidants, but their application is limited by uncontrollable release. This study focused on designing mesoporous composites for temperature-controlled release of essential oils. The mesoporous ZIF@MCC composites were synthesized and investigated for the release of thyme and cumin oils at different temperatures, showing a slower release at lower temperatures and a slightly faster release with higher temperatures. The releasing mechanism is mainly attributed to a combination of physical diffusion and chemical processing.
