Summary: This study focused on food waste generation in rural households in China, revealing that the average amount of food waste per meal is relatively low compared to high-income countries and urban restaurants. The driving factors of food waste generation in Chinese rural households include village type, household size, household income, household age structure, among others. Increased availability of information on food waste reduction and food storage conditions has a relatively small but noteworthy impact.
