The study demonstrates that TiB2 nanoparticles play distinctive roles in the oxidation behavior of AA7075 alloy, disrupting the oxide film, refining the microstructure, regulating the oxidation process, and inducing surface patterning.
In this paper, we studied the oxidation behavior in AA7075 containing TiB2 nanoparticles. The results indicate that TiB2 nanoparticles play distinctive roles during the coupled oxidation processes. At a lower temperature, TiB2 ruptures the Al2O3 film and refine the microstructure and morphology. Above the solutionizing point, Zn oxidation proceeds deeply into the matrix, and TiB2 nanoparticles partially block the diffusion path to increase the diffusion gradient. The TiB2-regulated oxidation is responsible for the surface patterning and the inward oxidation. The characterization of the oxygen penetration depth provides a mechanistic understanding for the coupled oxidation in AA7075 induced by TiB2 nanoparticles.
