Metal-coordinated fluorescent and luminescent probes for reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS)

Nahyun Kwon et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) play crucial roles in human life, but overproduction can lead to cell damage and diseases. Researchers have developed fluorescent and luminescent probes based on metal-coordinated systems to detect and image these active species, providing valuable tools for studying their roles in signaling and pathology.

A biheteroaryl-bridged fluorescence probe enables lipid droplets-specific bioimaging and photodynamic therapy in clinical clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Ping Tan et al.

Summary: A biheteroaryl-bridged fluorescence probe with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics is presented for specific bioimaging and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in human clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) tumor cells. The probe demonstrates high LDs-specific targeting capability, good biocompatibility, and ability to induce cell apoptosis and DNA damage, showing superior therapeutic efficiency compared to LDs-poor tumor cells and normal cells without LDs. Mechanism studies reveal the probe's ability to generate reactive oxygen species, resulting in desirable therapeutic outcomes for ccRCC tumor cells upon visible light irradiation.

Rational Design of Meso-Phosphino-Substituted BODIPY Probes for Imaging Hypochlorite in Living Cells and Mice

Chunyu Ma et al.

Summary: Meso-phosphino-substituted BODIPY probes were developed for detecting hypochlorite (ClO-), with one probe showing a turn-on fluorescence response and the other showing a colorimetric response. The different detection methods were attributed to alterations in electronic distribution of the BODIPY core caused by steric repulsions.
