Effect of supplementary cementitious materials on viscosity of cement-based pastes

Ivan Navarrete et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the influence of particle size, type of SCM, and their interactions with main mixture parameters on the viscosity of cementitious paste. The results indicate that φT has a greater impact on viscosity than particle size and interparticle force of the cementitious particles.

Characterization and behavior of basalt fiber-reinforced lightweight concrete

Nagarajan Divyah et al.

Summary: The use of improvised construction techniques and industrial wastes in concrete manufacturing contributes to sustainability. The importance of artificially manufactured aggregates is increasing, with fibers being used for secondary reinforcement. Tests on sintered fly ash aggregate concrete and normal aggregate concrete with and without basalt fiber showed promising results in terms of compressive strength. Light weight concrete has lower modulus of elasticity compared to normal aggregate concrete. A simple linear relationship between mechanical properties has been developed through regression analysis, with water absorption and void ratio directly related to sorptivity and ponding of concrete. Strength and durability of lightweight aggregate concrete align well with the requirements of structural lightweight concrete, with strict adherence to codal provisions ensuring proper behavior.

Impact of Fly Ash on Time-Dependent Properties of Agro-Waste Lightweight Aggregate Concrete

Mehdi Maghfouri et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of fly ash on time-dependent development properties of oil palm shell lightweight aggregate concrete, including density, water absorption, compressive strength up to 120 days, and drying shrinkage up to the age of 365 days under different curing conditions. It was found that the incorporation of fly ash in OPS concrete reduces density and compressive strength, while increasing water absorption and drying shrinkage crack potential, particularly for mixtures with 100% OPS.

Summary: ECC is a new type of fibre-reinforced bendable cementitious composite with high mechanical and durable properties. The incorporation of different materials plays a vital role in enhancing the properties of ECC, but improper selection of materials, curing conditions, and mixing ratios can have adverse effects. Detailed studies on material incorporation behavior, curing conditions, and experimental details are crucial for improving the fresh and mechanical properties of ECC.

Production and properties of lightweight concrete incorporating recycled waste crushed clay bricks

May M. Atyia et al.

Summary: This study investigated the recycling of waste crushed clay bricks in the concrete industry, finding that they can be used as substitutes for cement and aggregates to produce lightweight structural concrete with appropriate properties. Grinding the bricks also showed potential as a supplementary cementitious material to reduce cement content without significantly affecting concrete properties.

Lightweight foamed concrete as a promising avenue for incorporating waste materials: A review

Syed Nasir Shah et al.

Summary: Several million tons of various types of wastes are generated globally each year, with most being disposed of through landfilling or incineration. Utilizing these wastes as alternatives to common concrete constituents is being explored, particularly in foamed concrete due to its low strength requirement. However, limited knowledge on the utilization of waste materials in foamed concrete and their impact hinders further development of the concept.
