Investigation of microstructure of C-S-H and micro-mechanics of cement pastes under NH4NO3 dissolution by 29Si MAS NMR and microhardness

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of NH4NO3 dissolution on hardened cement pastes, revealing a two-stage decalcification process and the weakening of microhardness in cement pastes. The results also indicated a relationship between microhardness and paste C/S, Q1 proportion, and C-S-H polymerization. The main causes for the degradation of cement pastes under NH4NO3 dissolution were identified as Ca(OH)2 dissolution and degradation of C-S-H structure.

The influence of fiber type and length on the cracking resistance, durability and pore structure of face slab concrete

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that PVA fibers are most effective in improving the cracking resistance and durability of face slab concrete. Increasing fiber length significantly enhances the cracking resistance and frost resistance of concrete.

The impact of carboxylic acid type hydrophobic agent on compressive strength of cementitious materials

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The hydrophobic agent has little influence on the hydration degree and structure of hydration products of cementitious materials, but it can lead to the generation of calcium carboxylate and an increase in air content, affecting the microstructure and compressive strength of cement paste. The study suggests that hydrophobic agents may play a significant role in improving the durability of concrete, although the reduction in compressive strength should be taken into consideration.
