A review on phase change materials for thermal energy storage in buildings: Heating and hybrid applications

Khaireldin Faraj et al.

Summary: Research on thermal energy storage, particularly phase change materials like PCMs, is crucial for improving energy efficiency and maintaining thermal comfort in buildings. Current studies focus on the effectiveness of PCM in building heating applications and the significance of PCM system hybridization, while further experimental investigations and optimization of hybrid systems are still needed.

Hydration heat, strength and microstructure characteristics of UHPC containing blast furnace slag

Caglar Yalcinkaya et al.

Summary: The study found that GGBS replacement has a significant impact on the hydration heat and strength of UHPC, especially at higher temperatures. Strength differences are mainly evident on the first day of curing, and prolonged curing time and fiber inclusion can eliminate these differences. Additionally, GGBS replacement can improve the microstructural characteristics of UHPC.

Low hydration exothermic well cement system: The application of energy storage microspheres prepared by high-strength hollow microspheres carrying phase change materials

Yuhuan Bu et al.

Summary: An energy storage microsphere, encapsulating phase change materials in high-strength hollow microsphere, was successfully prepared to reduce hydration exothermic in cement mixture without negatively affecting its properties. Sealed ESM showed positive effects on reducing heat released during the cement hydration process and improving rheological properties of cement slurry. The novel material had no negative impact on cement strength and basic properties, making it applicable for deep water oil well cementing.

Hydration, shrinkage, pore structure and fractal dimension of silica fume modified low heat Portland cement-based materials

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: The addition of silica fume accelerates hydration of low heat Portland cement and consumes Ca(OH)(2), leading to excellent performance in concrete with 8% silica fume. Fractal dimension (D-s) can be used as a new parameter to evaluate the shrinkage behavior of concrete.

Investigation of microstructure of C-S-H and micro-mechanics of cement pastes under NH4NO3 dissolution by 29Si MAS NMR and microhardness

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of NH4NO3 dissolution on hardened cement pastes, revealing a two-stage decalcification process and the weakening of microhardness in cement pastes. The results also indicated a relationship between microhardness and paste C/S, Q1 proportion, and C-S-H polymerization. The main causes for the degradation of cement pastes under NH4NO3 dissolution were identified as Ca(OH)2 dissolution and degradation of C-S-H structure.

Thermal control effects and mechanism of slag and fly ash on heat development of cement slurry used in hydrate formation

Jin-hua Huo et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively and qualitatively investigated the thermal control effects of slag and fly ash on the heat development of cement slurry used in deep-water gas hydrate formation. The results show that slag and fly ash successfully reduced the temperature rise, hydration heat, and heat release rate of the cement slurry, which is beneficial for cementing gas hydrate formation and avoiding engineering accidents. Furthermore, the research results provide technical reference for the design of cement slurry for hydrate formation cementing with quantitative calculations and qualitative analysis.
