Performance of mechanical steel bar splices using grouted couplers under uniaxial tension

Summary: Grouted couplers were used as an alternative to traditional steel bar lapping method to avoid bar congestion issues and reduce the required quantity of steel bars. Short-threaded grout couplers performed best in high seismic zones, while short-threaded grout couplers and long grout couplers were suitable for low-to-medium seismic zones.

Shear strength and cracking mechanism of precast bridge columns with grouted sleeve connections

Summary: The study proposes an approach for evaluating the shear cracking mechanism and strength of precast columns with grouted sleeve connection, using units with different stiffness to establish the structure and solve cracking angle based on the Modified Compression Field Theory (MCFT). An improved model for predicting shear strength is presented, along with a skeleton curve prediction method based on principal compressive strain in compression zone. Overall, the improved MCFT method is effective for predicting shear failure of precast bridge columns with sleeve connection.

Seismic performance of fabricated concrete piers with grouted sleeve joints and bearing-capacity estimation method

Summary: The seismic performance and design method of fabricated concrete bridge piers were studied in an 8-degree seismic fortification intensity area. Different connection methods were tested on models, showing that damage mainly occurred at the top and bottom of the sleeves for SFP and SSFP, with damage concentrated at the joints. Compared to RCP, SFP and SSFP exhibited greater yield and ultimate displacements.

An experimental comparison of RC beam-column joints incorporating different splice methods in the beam

Summary: This study focuses on the influence of reinforcement ratio, bar splice methods, and number of splices on the behavior of RC beam-column joints under dynamic loads. Results indicate that joints with forging method exhibit better ductility, absorbed energy, and stiffness compared to those with threaded couplers. Moreover, reinforcement ratio does not significantly affect stiffness but has a remarkable impact on ductility and absorbed energy.

An experimental study on the influence of incorporating lap or forging (GPW) splices on the cyclic performance of RC columns

Results showed that using forging splices in the middle or at the bottom of columns can increase displacement ductility, curvature ductility, and plastic hinge length, while lap splices may decrease seismic parameters. Additionally, incorporating forging splices at the bottom of columns may increase stiffness and ultimate moment.
