Influence of fresh concrete pressure on cover porosity investinated by single-sided proton nuclear magnetic resonance

Robert Schulte Holthausen et al.

Summary: In this study, single-sided H-1 NMR was used to quantify the porosity of concrete cover. The differences in porosity between hardened cement paste, mortar, and concrete samples were primarily attributed to the formation of the interfacial transition zone. In concrete samples, the uneven distribution of porous hardened cement paste and variations in porosity and pore size with concrete depth were observed.

Application of Low-Field NMR to the Pore Structure of Concrete

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: The study used LF-NMR measurements and MIP to evaluate the influence of water-binder ratio, fly ash replacement, and curing regimes on the pore structure of concrete, showing significant effects on porosity, pore size distribution, and compressive strength. The relationship between compressive strength and porosity, pore size distribution was established based on LF-NMR test results.

Size effect in dynamic splitting tensile strength of concrete: Experimental investigation

Wen Zhong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the dynamic size effect of concrete, finding that the dynamic size effect differs from the static size effect at different strain rates. Higher strain rates enhance the dynamic strength of larger size specimens.

The effect of steam curing regimes on the chloride resistance and pore size of high-strength green concrete

Abdullah M. Zeyad et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of steam curing regimes (SCRs) on high-strength green concrete (HSGC) incorporating ultrafine palm oil fuel ash (U-POFA) as a partial substitute for cement. The results showed that using a high volume of U-POFA in HSGC led to improved compressive strength, chloride resistance, and microstructure properties at different ages, with the enhancement being influenced by U-POFA replacement rates, temperature, and steam curing period.

Effect of natural additives on concrete mechanical properties

Rocio R. Gallegos-Villela et al.

Summary: The study showed a significant improvement in concrete's mechanical properties when using nopal mucilage and Ixtle fiber as additives, indicating their suitability for reducing cement or steel use in the engineering and construction industry. This was evidenced by the increase in potassium and calcium ion concentrations after the additives were dosed.
