Local slip resistances in equal-molar MoNbTi multi-principal element alloy

Shuozhi Xu et al.

Summary: In this work, local slip resistances in equal-molar MoNbTi multi-principal element alloy are calculated via molecular static simulations. The results show that the screw-to-edge ratio in the slip resistance is reduced by one order of magnitude in MoNbTi compared to that of any pure reference metal for the same type of slip plane, suggesting that BCC MPEAs could deform by a multiplicity of slip modes.

On the significance of model design in atomistic calculations of the Peierls stress in Nb

Wu-Rong Jian et al.

Summary: The Peierls stress, an important property controlling plastic deformation of metals, can vary in atomistic models due to differences in model configuration, size, and loading mode. Smaller model sizes generally lead to artificially lower Peierls stresses, and model configuration significantly affects whether the stress converges with size, the minimum size required for convergence, and the stress magnitude. Only the periodic array of dislocation (PAD) model achieves a strictly converged value for the two interatomic potentials considered.

A ductility criterion for bcc high entropy alloys

Eleanor Mak et al.

Summary: The current goal of alloy development is to identify alloy compositions for high temperature applications with sufficient ductility at ambient temperatures. High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) have emerged as a new class of metal alloys, with some compositions showing excellent strength retention at high temperatures but low ductility at room temperature. The study investigates the macroscopic ductility in bcc elements and alloys, and proposes a ductility criterion based on stress intensities for critical crack orientations, which is then applied to HEAs to identify new compositions with potential for room temperature ductility.

Effect of interstitial N atom on physical and mechanical properties of FeCoCrNiMn high-entropy alloys: A first-principles study

Yanru Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of interstitial N atom on FeCoCrNiMn HEAs using first-principles calculation. The results show that the incorporation of N atom increases the ductility of the alloy, reduces its elastic modulus, and leads to strong anisotropy.
