Molecular dynamics simulation on the cyclic deformation of magnesium single crystals

Zheyuan Xing et al.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulations were used to study the cyclic deformation of magnesium single crystalline nano-pillars, revealing that the crystalline orientation and loading path can influence the tension-compression asymmetry. Different deformation modes were observed under different loading directions and angles, providing new insights into the mechanical property of Mg crystals under cyclic loading.

Synergistically improved damping, elastic modulus and mechanical properties of rolled Mg-8Li-4Y-2Er-2Zn-0.6Zr alloy with twins and long-period stacking ordered phase

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The Mg-8Li-4Y-2Er-2Zn-0.6Zr alloy exhibits high damping capacity, tensile strength and elastic modulus after heat treatment and cold rolling processes. The introduction of LPSO phase and formation of twins during cold rolling contribute to the improvement in damping capacity and tensile strength. The high elastic modulus of the cold-rolled alloy can be attributed to the effects of LPSO phase and cold rolling.

Grain refinement mechanism of Mg-3Sn-1Mn-1La alloy during accumulative hot rolling

Z. Y. Zhao et al.

Summary: The effect of lanthanum (La) on the grain refinement of Mg-3Sn-1Mn alloy during accumulative hot rolling is significant. Through dynamic recrystallization, the grain size of Mg-3Sn-1Mn-1La alloy becomes finer, attributed to the uniform distribution of MgSnLa compounds within the grains, increasing the dislocation density and promoting recrystallization more effectively.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of in-situ Ti6Al4V-TiB composites manufactured by selective laser melting

Zhiguang Zhou et al.

Summary: In situ TiB reinforced titanium matrix composites were fabricated via selective laser melting, with optimized processing to achieve crack-free and fully dense composites. The distribution of TiB reinforcement in the composites was mainly in the form of whisker clusters, showing different distributions in TMC1 and TMC2. The improvement in mechanical properties of the composites was attributed to Hall-Petch strengthening and load-bearing transformation strengthening.

Microstructural evolution and mechanical performance of in-situ TiB2/AlSi10Mg composite manufactured by selective laser melting

Yuxuan Liu et al.

Summary: In-situ TiB2/AlSi10Mg composites were prepared via casting, gas atomization, and selective laser melting (SLM), with SLMed samples showing a microstructure of fine grains and no texture. The composites exhibited excellent strength, hardness, and friction coefficient, outperforming the as-cast composite and SLMed AlSi10Mg alloy. The formation mechanism and strengthening effect of this unique structure were discussed.

Tribological Behavior of In Situ TiC/Graphene/Graphite/Ti6Al4V Matrix Composite Through Laser Cladding

Zhanyong Zhao et al.

Summary: The TiC/graphene/graphite/Ti6Al4V composite coating was prepared using laser cladding, showing improved wear resistance and changing wear mechanisms under different loads, transitioning from abrasive and oxidation wear to delamination, fatigue, and oxidation wear. The in-situ reaction between graphene and titanium formed feathery TiC, enhancing the coating's tribological behavior.

Super-high-strength graphene/titanium composites fabricated by selective laser melting

Q. Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, graphene nanosheet (GNS)-reinforced Ti-6Al-4V matrix composite was successfully fabricated using selective laser melting (SLM) process, which exhibited super-high tensile strength and high Young's modulus. The locally reacted GNSs and in-situ formed ultrafine TiC particles were found to be the main contributors to the outstanding mechanical properties of the composite.

Deformation and fracture mechanisms of in situ synthesized TiC reinforced TC4 matrix composites produced by selective laser melting

Pengcheng Huo et al.

Summary: TiC/TC4 composites fabricated using selective laser melting exhibited enhanced compressive strength and considerable fracture elongation, attributed to the load transfer effect and uniformly distributed dimples formed by in situ nanoscale TiC reinforcement. The uneven stress distribution in the shear band of the composites led to fracture, while the concentrated distribution of V element promoted the uniform distribution in the dimple through load transfer.

The strengthening mechanism and deformation behavior of Mg-Li matrix composite reinforced by Al3La phase formed in-situ through La2O3 particle

Xiaoqiang Li et al.

Summary: By adding submicron La2O3 particles modified by lithium salts to an LAZ532 alloy melt, a composite with high strength and plasticity reinforced by Al3La phase was obtained. The properties of the composite showed significant improvement, mainly attributed to grain refinement, texture strengthening, and Orowan strengthening. During tensile deformation, the texture type remained stable and deformation was dominated by prismatic slip and nucleation of extension twins.
