Experimental Study of Mechanical Behavior of 3D Angle-Interlock Woven Fabrics under Cyclic Load

Zhiming Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the deformation behaviors of 3D angle-interlock woven fabrics and finds that shear cyclic displacement condition has a higher shape-preserving ability compared to its tensile counterpart. The negative Poisson's ratio in the thickness direction is observed only when the tensile displacement is applied along the warp direction. A theoretical model is presented to predict the thickness variations of the woven fabrics, showing good agreement with experimental results.

Simulating the effect of fabric bending stiffness on the wrinkling behaviour of biaxial fabrics during preforming

F. Yu et al.

Summary: In the study of forming-induced wrinkling behavior in bi-axial fabrics, it was found that using a non-linear bending model produces more accurate wrinkle patterns compared to experimental data. This is because the bending stiffness parameter is varied as a function of the applied forming load to account for fiber buckling. Areas of high in-plane shear are more likely to induce out-of-plane wrinkles.

An improved orthotropic elasto-plastic damage model for plain woven composites

Mohit Gupta et al.

Summary: A novel ply based non-linear material constitutive model is proposed for mechanical characterization of plain woven composite, with the ability to decouple plasticity and progressive damage effects. The study on basalt plain woven composite plays a crucial role in understanding the material properties through mechanical characterization and experiments.

Analysis and Modeling of Wrinkling in Composite Forming

Philippe Boisse et al.

Summary: This article presents different approaches for simulating wrinkling during the forming of textile reinforcements, including 3D finite element modeling with consideration of additional bending stiffness of fibers and the importance of bending stiffness in shell-type modeling. It also discusses the common aspects of quasi-inextensibility of fibers and possible slippage between fibers in the development of wrinkles. Additionally, it explores the influence of fiber orientation on wrinkling during the simultaneous forming of multilayered textile reinforcements.
