Constrained-temperature solutions of coflow laminar diffusion flames

Nathan J. Kempema et al.

Summary: Experimental 2-D temperature profiles are used to constrain detailed numerical solutions of a sooting coflow laminar diffusion flame. By imposing the experimental temperature field in the solution process, the need to solve the energy equation and incorporate costly models of radiative losses in the flame is obviated. The distribution of soot in the constrained solution is more consistent with experimental observations, illustrating the complexity of validating a soot sub-model in the presence of distributed heat losses in the flame.

Experimental study on the effect of pool fire area and violent fuel boiling on fuel burning state evolution in compartment fire

Dong Wang et al.

Summary: The impact of pool area and violent liquid fuel boiling on compartment fire evolution and facade flame was elucidated through experiments. It was found that as the ratio of pool area to opening factor increased, various parameters such as temperature variations, fuel mass loss rate, and facade flame height were affected. The pyrolysis rate of fuel in a ventilation-controlled fire was determined by opening factor and fuel area.

Effect of ignition position on premixed hydrogen-air flame quenching behaviors under action of metal wire mesh

Kaiqiang Jin et al.

Summary: Experimental analysis was conducted to study the effect of ignition position on the quenching of premixed hydrogen-air flames using metal wire mesh as an inhibitory structure. Results showed that ignition position significantly affected flame quenching difficulty and behaviors. The study also revealed changes in flame tip speed and pressure as ignition position varied, indicating a more pronounced inhibitory effect when ignition position was closer to the wire mesh.

Wire-mesh inhibition of jet fire induced by explosion venting

Zhirong Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that wire mesh structure can effectively suppress the jet fire induced by explosion venting, with flame propagation velocity and pressure decreasing significantly as the number of mesh layers increase. Mesh size and distance between mesh and explosion vent also have significant impacts on the suppression effect.
