An experimental and kinetic modeling study of the auto-ignition of natural gas blends containing C1-C7 alkanes

A. Abd El-Sabor Mohamed et al.

Summary: Experimental measurements were conducted to investigate the ignition delay time of multi-component natural gas mixtures. Results showed that adding heavier hydrocarbons to the mixture significantly increased reactivity and exhibited two-stage ignition behavior. Sensitivity analyses were performed to identify key reactions controlling the ignition behavior of the blends.

Exploring the oxidation chemistry of diisopropyl ether: Jet-stirred reactor experiments and kinetic modeling

Xuefeng Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the oxidation mechanism of DIPE at different temperatures through experiments and kinetic modeling, revealing that the low oxidation reactivity at lower temperatures is mainly due to radical decomposition reactions, while at higher temperatures, consumption primarily occurs through hydrogen abstraction from carbon atoms. Propylene and acetone are the major products, with other intermediates mainly formed through the consumption of these two species.

Characterizing the fuel-specific combustion chemistry of acetic acid and propanoic acid: Laminar flame propagation and kinetic modeling studies

Xiaoyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The combustion chemistry of acetic acid and propanoic acid were studied by investigating their laminar burning velocities in high-pressure conditions. Results showed that propanoic acid flame propagated faster than acetic acid flame, especially under rich conditions. The kinetic model developed based on theoretical calculations could predict the measured laminar burning velocities accurately.

A comprehensive experimental and kinetic modeling study of 1-and 2-pentene

Shijun Dong et al.

Summary: The study measured ignition delay times of 1- and 2-pentene using a high-pressure shock tube and a rapid compression machine. The results showed similar fuel reactivities of 1- and 2-pentene at high temperatures, but 1-pentene had higher fuel reactivity and exhibited negative temperature coefficient behavior at low temperatures. Further analysis and modifications were made to the chemical mechanism to improve predictions.

Summary: The accurate and robust kinetic models are crucial in combustion chemistry research. Reliable experimental data and advanced diagnostic techniques play essential roles in model development. New strategies like ASSM and ANN-HDMR can reduce model dimensionality and computational cost significantly, while global-sensitivity based experimental design methods can guide kinetics-information-enriched data generation. The computational framework OptEx provides a new means for integrating experimental data with mechanism development, design, and optimization to develop reliable kinetic models more efficiently and effectively.

Understanding the antagonistic effect of methanol as a component in surrogate fuel models: A case study of methanol/n-heptane mixtures

Yingtao Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing methanol in a blend can promote or inhibit reactivity of the mixture at different temperatures, and at low temperatures, the competition between methanol and n-heptane plays a significant role in autoignition. Additionally, at high temperatures, methanol produces higher concentrations of H(O)2 radicals, promoting the reactivity of methanol/n-heptane mixtures for ignition delay times and laminar flame speeds.
