Controlling orientation, conformation, and biorecognition of proteins on silane monolayers, conjugate polymers, and thermo-responsive polymer brushes: investigations using TOF-SIMS and principal component analysis

Summary: This study discusses the importance of controlling the orientation and conformation of surface-immobilized proteins for their biological activity in biointerface engineering. The use of TOF-SIMS analysis combined with multivariate principal component analysis is highlighted for tracing orientation and conformation changes of various proteins immobilized on different surfaces. The multivariate TOF-SIMS results show good correlation with AFM data and binding assays, providing valuable information for understanding protein behavior on surfaces.
