Removal of lead (Pb(II)) and zinc (Zn(II)) from aqueous solution using coal fly ash (CFA) as a dual-sites adsorbent

Widi Astuti et al.

Summary: This study focused on the adsorption of Pb(II) and Zn(II) onto NaOH-modified CFA in a binary system, achieving nearly 100% Pb(II) and 97% Zn(II) adsorption. The optimal pH for the adsorption system was found to be 3, with quasi-equilibrium reached in 240 minutes. The Competitive Adsorption Langmuir-Langmuir (CALL) isotherm model provided a better description of the adsorption process compared to the Modified Extended Langmuir (MEL) model.

Response surface methodology for the optimization of the ultrasonic-assisted rhamnolipid treatment of oily sludge

Chong Liu et al.

Summary: This study explored the recovery of oily sludge using ultrasound-assisted rhamno-lipids, with oil recovery yield as the evaluation index. The optimization results showed a high accuracy in predicting oil recovery yield, with a deviation of only 2.32% between the model prediction and experimental results under optimal conditions. This method provides a theoretical basis for oily sludge treatment and practical application in Huaidong in the Xinjiang Province.

Red mud for the efficient adsorption of U(VI) from aqueous solution: Influence of calcination on performance and mechanism

Wanying Wu et al.

Summary: This study produced macroporous iron and carbon combined calcined red mud (ICRM) and carbon calcined red mud (CRM) through calcination in the range of 500-800 degrees C, revealing advantageous performances with stable U adsorption capacities. The main adsorption mechanisms of ICRM are surface electrostatic attraction, physical adsorption by porous structure, and chemical adsorption by active Al and Fe components. Overall, ICRM offers theoretical guidances to radioactive drainage management and red mud reuse by exhibiting superior U adsorption capacity and positive potential charges under acidic conditions.
