Splitting tensile mechanical properties of plain ice and fiber-reinforced ice

Xiaonan Lou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tensile properties of plain ice and fiber-reinforced ice and found that the FRI exhibited ductile failure and significantly improved deformation capacity compared to plain ice. The tensile strength of FRI was approximately 2-3.5 times higher than plain ice and was negatively related to temperature but positively related to loading rate and fiber content. A tensile strength model was established, and design values for ice splitting tensile strength were recommended based on reliability theory. This study lays the foundation for further promoting the application of ice in architecture.
