Performance of the 2017 European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology/American College of Rheumatology Classification Criteria for Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies in Patients With Myositis-Specific Autoantibodies

Maria Casal-Dominguez et al.

Summary: The study revealed that certain MSA-defined subgroups of myositis patients are frequently misclassified, and MSAs are better predictors of myositis phenotypes compared to the EULAR/ACR-defined subgroups.

Dermatomyositis autoantibodies: how can we maximize utility?

Luqman Mushila Hodgkinson et al.

Summary: Significant advances have been made in the research of myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) in patients with dermatomyositis (DM) in the past 15 years. Different MSAs are associated with unique clinical and pathological phenotypes, as well as varying risks for interstitial lung disease and internal malignancy. However, further standardization and validation of assays for different MSAs are still needed.

Dermatomyositis and malignancy: should all patients with dermatomyositis undergo malignancy screening?

Urmi Khanna et al.

Summary: Dermatomyositis is associated with underlying malignancy in some patients, triggering the need for malignancy screening upon diagnosis. However, there is a lack of well-established malignancy screening protocols tailored for dermatomyositis patients, and the balance between risks and benefits of screening remains uncertain. More research is needed to determine which dermatomyositis patients should undergo malignancy screening and how it should be conducted to maximize its value.

Dermatomyositis. Diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations of the Polish Dermatological Society

Adam Reich et al.

Summary: Dermatomyositis is an autoimmune disease characterized by skin lesions and/or symptoms of myositis. It can present in various forms, with different treatment options depending on disease dynamics, symptoms, diagnosed immunological disorders, comorbidities, and drugs used. Individual clinical data of the patient and current scientific reports must be considered in each diagnostic and therapeutic decision.

Inhibiting Interferon Pathways in Dermatomyositis: Rationale and Preliminary Evidence

Maria Casal-Dominguez et al.

Summary: Dermatomyositis (DM) is a systemic autoimmune disease affecting multiple organs. Recent findings suggest that JAK-STAT inhibitors may be beneficial in treating muscle and skin involvement in adult or juvenile DM patients, as well as managing complicated clinical manifestations such as calcinosis or interstitial lung disease. Further research is needed to define the role of these drugs in DM treatment.

Summary: This study examines the clinical characteristics of patients with anti-SAE autoantibodies in a North American cohort and investigates cancer prevalence. The performance characteristics of the line blotting method for antibody detection were compared with an immunoprecipitation-based assay.
