The IlluminOss® photodynamic bone stabilization system for pathological osteolyses and fractures of the humerus: indications, advantages and limits in a series of 12 patients at 24 months of minimum follow-up

Summary: The study retrospectively included 12 patients with pathological fractures or impending fractures of the humerus, who underwent surgery using the IlluminOss(R) Photodynamic Bone Stabilization System. The surgical procedures were performed without complications, with only two nail ruptures reported during follow-up. No postoperative complications were noted, and patients experienced pain relief and improved range of motion.

A carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone intramedullary nail improves fracture site visibility on postoperative radiographic images

Summary: In a retrospective study comparing carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR/PEEK) intramedullary nails with traditional metallic intramedullary nails for treating trochanteric femoral fractures, it was found that CFR/PEEK nails provided superior visibility of the fracture site on radiographs and exhibited lower scattering on CT images compared to metallic nails. The results suggest that CFR/PEEK intramedullary nails have advantages in evaluating fracture reduction and bone formation, as well as in diagnosing peri-prosthetic cancellous and cortical bone.
