Observation of anti-parity-time-symmetry, phase transitions and exceptional points in an optical fibre

Arik Bergman et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates anti-PT symmetric phase transitions and exceptional point singularities in a single strand of single-mode telecommunication fibre through Brillouin interactions, without the need for complex devices, and can be tuned simply by controlling pump power and frequency.

Nondissipative non-Hermitian dynamics and exceptional points in coupled optical parametric oscillators

Arkadev Roy et al.

Summary: The engineered non-Hermitian systems with exceptional points (EPs) can lead to extraordinary phenomena in various fields. This study introduces the non-Hermitian dynamics of coupled optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and highlights their advantages over conventional systems, showcasing unique potentials such as spectral anti-parity-time symmetry and advanced EP demonstrations. Coupled OPOs offer unprecedented opportunities for realizing nonlinear dynamical systems for enhanced sensing and quantum information processing.

Rotation sensitivity and shot-noise-limited detection in an exceptional-point coupled-ring gyroscope

Matthew J. Grant et al.

Summary: The study reveals that a passive coupled-ring optical gyroscope operated at its exceptional point does not provide higher sensitivity or lower minimum detectable rotation rate in the quantum-noise limit compared to a standard single-ring gyroscope. Operating at the exceptional point does not offer any sensitivity or resolution benefit in this particular passive sensor.

Topological Defect Engineering and PT Symmetry in Non-Hermitian Electrical Circuits

Alexander Stegmaier et al.

Summary: Using electric circuit networks, we studied topological states of matter in non-Hermitian systems with parity-time symmetry and chiral symmetry. The impact of PT-symmetric gain and loss on localized edge and defect states was analyzed, revealing distinct properties of topological edge states and defect states. Our findings provide insights into future routes for topological defect engineering and tuning in non-Hermitian systems of arbitrary dimension.

Nonlinear enhanced microresonator gyroscope

Jonathan M. Silver et al.

Summary: Optical gyroscopes based on the Sagnac effect are crucial for inertial navigation in aerospace and shipping. Recent advancements in microresonators have led to the development of compact alternatives like microresonator gyroscopes. By utilizing exceptional points in non-Hermitian systems and critical points of symmetry-breaking transitions, the responsivity of these gyroscopes can be significantly enhanced.

Single-cavity bi-color laser enabled by optical anti-parity-time symmetry

Yao Duan et al.

Summary: The exploration of quantum inspired symmetries in optical systems has led to the development of a new type of laser that demonstrates stable, demultiplexed, tunable bi-color emission in a single micro-ring resonator. This laser may provide a new route for realizing compact on-chip coherent multi-color light sources.
