Thermal performance of a 3D printed lattice-structure heat sink packaging phase change material

Summary: In this paper, 3D printing technology and Phase Change Material (PCM) were combined to create a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system for space applications. Through experiments and simulations, the thermal performance of a 3D-printed lattice-structure TES plate was analyzed, showing significant heat transfer enhancement and increased thermal conductivity compared to pure PCM. The study successfully validated the feasibility and effectiveness of 3D printing technology and TES technology for temperature control in space applications.

Largely improved thermal conductivity of HDPE composites by building a 3D hybrid fillers network

Summary: HDPE-g-MAH serves as a compatibilizer in ternary composites to reduce filler agglomeration, promote network structure formation, and enhance thermal conductivity. The mechanical performance and thermal conductivity of the composites are related to their morphology and crystallinity; although a high fraction of BN nanosheets can decrease the electrical conductivity of the composites, they have little effect on the electromagnetic interference shielding performance.

3D-printing of segregated carbon nanotube/polylactic acid composite with enhanced electromagnetic interference shielding and mechanical performance

Summary: The use of 3D-printed segregated carbon nanotube/polylactic acid composite has shown to enhance both mechanical properties and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness. The interconnected conductive network formed by CNTs on the 3D-printed PLA scaffold significantly improves the EMI SE of the composite to 67.0 dB. Additionally, the highly continuous structure of the 3D-printed PLA scaffold contributes to the mechanical robustness of the composite, leading to higher bending strength and Young's modulus compared to conventional CNT/PLA composites.

Carbonized cellulose microsphere@void@MXene composite films with egg-box structure for electromagnetic interference shielding

Summary: The study demonstrates that a well-established internal multilayered structure can greatly enhance shielding effectiveness in EMI shielding systems. By encapsulating carbonized cellulose microspheres into Ti3C2Tx MXene layers, a unique egg-box structure composite film is achieved, showing excellent electrical conductivity and EMI shielding efficiency at an ultrathin thickness. The hierarchical porous egg-box structure holds great potential for highly efficient EMI shielding systems.

Reduced graphene oxide/Fe2O3 hollow microspheres coated sponges for flexible electromagnetic interference shielding composites

Summary: In this study, low-density, compressible and porous composites were fabricated by coating PU sponge with rGO and Fe2O3, achieving high EMI shielding effectiveness through enhanced absorption and dielectric loss, as well as utilizing the porous structure for multiple reflections and scattering of EM waves. By selectively stacking rGO coated and rGO/Fe2O3 coated sponges, the absorption of electromagnetic waves was further improved up to 97.3% by serving as reflection and absorption layers.

Electrical insulating MXene/PDMS/BN composite with enhanced thermal conductivity for electromagnetic shielding application

Summary: This study presents a layer-by-layer spin coating process to prepare multilayer films with ordered alternate structures; the combination of MXene and PDMS provides effective EMI shielding, while BN and PDMS offer efficient heat dissipation. The EMI SE of the multilayer films increases with the number of layers, but an increase in layers results in decreased thermal conductivity and electrical insulation performance.

High-Performance and Reliable Silver Nanotube Networks for Efficient and Large-Scale Transparent Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

Summary: A high-performance silver nanotube network with stable and integrated interconnects is prepared using physical depositing technology, achieving one order higher conductivity than previous studies and maintaining <10% variation with random deformations. The manufactured transparent EMI shielding film, less than 1 mm in thickness, can be easily transferred to arbitrary surfaces with commercial EMI shielding effectiveness of about 35 dB, showing great potential for future flexible and transparent scenarios.

Reduction of Electrochemically Exfoliated Graphene Films for High-Performance Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

Summary: This study demonstrates that electrochemically exfoliated graphene (EEG) with post-reduction treatment is a promising candidate for lightweight EMI shielding materials. Reduction of EEG by three different methods leads to graphene films with excellent EMI shielding effectiveness. Microwaves reduced graphene films show one of the largest reported EMI shielding values for graphene at comparable thicknesses due to improved electrical conductivity and large volume expansion.

Influence of Anionic Surfactants on the Fundamental Properties of Polymer/Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite Films

Ultrahigh-Aspect-Ratio Boron Nitride Nanosheets Leading to Superhigh In-Plane Thermal Conductivity of Foldable Heat Spreader

Summary: A rapid and high-yield method based on a microfluidization technique is developed to obtain exfoliated BNNS with a record high aspect ratio of approximate to 1500 and low degree of defects. The composite film made of BNNS and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix exhibits an in-plane thermal conductivity of 67.6 W m(-1) K-1 at a BNNS loading of 83 wt %, leading to a record high value of thermal conductivity enhancement (approximate to 35,500). This provides a practical route to produce electrically insulating polymer composites with high thermal conductivity for thermal management applications in modern electronic devices.

Enhanced Thermal Conductivity in Oriented Polyvinyl Alcohol/Graphene Oxide Composites

Improving the local thermal conductivity of flexible films by microchannels filled with graphene

Summary: The low thermal conductivity of polymer substrates has been a major challenge in the application of flexible devices, but the use of microchannels to improve the local thermal conductivity of core areas has proven to be effective in adapting to large deformations of flexible devices; By fabricating microchannels in polyimide (PI) composite film through oxygen plasma etching and filling them with graphene, the local thermal conductivity of the graphene-filled region was confirmed to be about 10 times larger than that of the unfilled region, comparable to heavily filled PI composite with traditional high thermal conductive fillers.

Polymer-based EMI shielding composites with 3D conductive networks: A mini-review
